Real People Food

Jase has taken quite the liking to "real people" food ever since my mom was here and feed him chicken noodle soup. He ate it so well I decided I would try other things that are easy to cut up or mash and he does great with them. He doesn't let a mouth with only two front bottom teeth get him down. He can gum with the best of them. He has even been known on a couple occasions to out eat Kylie at dinner. He has always been pretty good at eating the baby fruits and vegetables I give him, (except for peas and green beans, but he will eat "real people" peas) but I do think he is enjoying this new found world of much better tasting food. The only bad part about this whole situation is his spit-up is chunkier and smellier and his poop isn't pretty either!

So far, I think we have been blessed with kids that eat pretty well. Many times I find myself saying to Kylie, "You have had enough fruit/vegetable, now eat the rest of your dinner." She is pretty good at eating what I give her and very good with the healthy stuff. I am blessed with kids that don't make life too difficult and I grateful for that. I must say, they are pretty great. I am one lucky mom and I am very grateful for them!!

For the Love of Fall

I have learned to really love fall. It means we finally get a break from scorching temperatures. In the past it always meant freezing temperature and snow was on the way, which is a nice change, but in my old age I am really enjoy snowless winters. Today was decided that if we wanted a chance to enjoy the fall leaves we better go because they are just about gone. We usually head up to Cedar Canyon and I forget it is probably the most colorful at the end of September or the first of October.

We first stopped at Jeremy's family cabin. There isn't a whole lot up there except for a little cabin, an outhouse, a clear water stream and a tree with our names carved in it. This was Kylie's first time up there and Jeremy was excited to show it to her. She wanted to spend the night in the cabin and have a fire and roast marshmallows. We told maybe we could come back and do it another time (the marshmallow part...not the sleeping there part!!!)
The only spot we were able to find any sort of color was off the side of road up Right Hand Canyon. I guess we learned our lesson and next year we will get up there sooner. It's hard to remember it's fall up there when it's still very summery down here!

Ever Seen One of These?

It's a Neti Pot

I had never heard of one until about a year ago when I first saw it on Oprah. Dr. Oz talked about it and then since I heard quite a few other doctors talk about it on TV. They always said how amazing it was for sinus pressure and infections. A lot of people use it everyday just to keep them cleared out. Your suppose to stand in front of a sink, tilt your head to one side, while breathing through your mouth, "apply the tip of the device snugly against nasal passage and allow the solution to gently flow until solution starts draining from the opposite nasal passage." I know it sounds weird, but apparently it's amazing!
Well, Sunday morning found Jeremy in the Instacare with a really bad sinus infection. The whole right side of his face hurt. He said even his teeth hurt. I had brought the Neti pot up to him a couple times a few days before. Of course he had never heard of one so I tried to explain it to him along with the benefits and he just thought it was way too weird. After seeing the doctor Jeremy heads to Walmart to get his prescription filled and what does he come home with? A Neti-Pot!! The first thing he says to me as he walks in the door is, "I got persuaded by a couple of old people to buy this." I laughed at him, but was secretly offended that he thought I was crazy for even suggesting it, but would listen to complete strangers at the store. Well, to make a long story short, Jeremy is a firm believer in the Neti-pot. He has done it faithfully every night since Sunday and he has never felt better...well maybe not quite, but it really has helped and I guess it's not so crazy after all!

This is a censored picture of him in action. I have a really good one of him where you can see his face, but I was even a little grossed out by it so I decided not to post it!

The Week's Happenings

We have kind of just been living regular old life lately with nothing much to show for it, but finally this week I feel like we actually got out and had some fun.
On Wednesday Kylie's friend Taylor celebrated her 4th birthday with a little play date to Jumping Jacks. Its a fun warehouse full of inflatable bounce houses and big slides. Kylie is not a fan of slides and especially giant ones. I could not get her to go down one for anything. She preferred the bounce houses and cheap merri-go-rounds you would find at the entrance of any Walmart. Jase loved to bounce and especially loved the padded floor to crawl on. That is the first time we had been there and it was really fun and very effective way to wear kids out before naps!

Friday found us at our ward part at the Staheli Farm. This is the second year we've gone and we love it there. Our favorite parts are the tracker-pull train, the slides into the corn box (except we don't go down the slide we just play in the corn) the animals and the corn maize.

The second I sat Jase in the corn box, corn went straight into his mouth. You can see him trying to chew it right here. He was in there long enough to get a picture and then had to get out.

It took Kylie a minute, but she finally got brave enough to pet the animals and quite liked them by the end.

We tried our hand at the corn maize which was fun for about the first hour then it started getting a little chili and the sun was going down. Our only option was to cheat our way through and cut through the corn stocks.

The kids loved it and ran full speed ahead at first, but by the end they had had enough.
Notice the sun, or the lack thereof in the background when we finally got done.
The night ended with a bonfire and roasting marshmallows. Kylie wouldn't have anything to do with burnt mallows. They had to be just right or she wouldn't touch them!

Slush, the Sleepover Puppy

Kylie comes running out of Preschool last Thursday so excited because it was her turn to bring home Slush the class pet. It was her job to feed this dog, play with him, take him to the bathroom and care for him. She spent the whole ride home feeding him from his bottle and talking to him. I was little bit nervous having such a big responsibility on our hands. This dog comes with a long list of instructions such as; don't let your little siblings play with him, don't get him dirty, don't hurt him, make sure he comes back the very next class time and I am sure the list went on and on. Her teacher also spent quite a few minutes at back-to-school night talking about the sleepover pet and his well-being. Needless to say, I would have just assumed put him in the top of my closet until she went back to school, but Kylie was also suppose to report back the next class about all the fun they had together. So I let them play and she actually did a very good job taking care of him. She would sit in her rocking chair and feed him, she would wrap him up in his blanket and he would sleep by her.
I was however, somewhat relieved when today came and we could take him back to be shared with someone else. I was also relieved that he was in one piece and all of his accessories were with him. Kylie has him in his basket on her lap as we drive to school and she kept telling me how sad she was to give Slush back and she wanted to keep him forever. I told her that she would probably have another chance and the other kids needed a turn also. Then all the sudden from the backseat I hear a cough and then the sound of throw-up. I look back just in time to see Slush get plastered with oatmeal and apple juice. Poor guy!!! I continue the two more minutes I have to get to preschool, drop off Taylor (Kylie's friend) and sheepishly tell her teacher why Slush will not be returned today. I promptly take Kylie and Slush home and spend the morning getting Slush back into his mint condition. We just hope Slush will get a second chance at our house so we can try to prove ourselves again!

Hot Chocolate, Anyone?

Kylie came in from playing outside tonight and requested hot chocolate and a hot bath. Its chili outside these days. Well, actually the days are amazing, its the evening time that requires extra layering. I'm just grateful it won't get cold enough for snow down here. Any another thing, as I was trying to take Kylie's picture she said, "Mom, you are going to have to wait because I can't drink and smile at the same time."
