WHERE Did This Come From??

Guess where we found this little gem? ON MY BEDROOM FLOOR!!! Are you kidding me? Jeremy gets up last night to turn off some lights and as he opens our door a little bit more I hear him say "Oh, my gosh!" I look over to where he is at and there is a SCORPION hanging out on my bedroom floor. I just about died!! I couldn't believe. It made me sick. Jeremy stands there for a minute trying to think what he should do with it. He says "Well, I can't kill it with a tissue" so he runs downstairs and gets a jar. At this point I haven't seen it move at all, but as Jeremy tries to get it in the jar it stretches out and starts moving around really quick and I get so creeped out.

Once it's safely locked up in the jar we start discussing how in the world it got in here. We decided it couldn't have fit through a crack in the door or window, we didn't have the doors open for an extended period of time yesterday. So the only logical thing we could think of was that it crawled in our newspaper and then we brought it in, but we are not sure if it could have crawled up all our stairs. I would have thought we would have seen it on the stairs first. I don't know, but I told Jeremy we are done with the newspaper. I don't know what I would have done if I would have opened the paper it was in and had it fall on me. I am just so glad we found it when Jeremy was home to take care of it. I don't know what I would have done if it was just Kylie and I at home. Probably left for the rest of the day.

Jeremy decided to go get rid of the rest of the newspapers we had in a basket and put the jar in the bed of his truck. As I was laying there on my bed my mind starts going crazy. What if Jeremy wouldn't have gotten up? Kylie often comes into our room in the middle of the night and likes to sleep on a pad next to our bed. What if she would have stepped on it? I sometimes go down stairs if I can't sleep what if I would have stepped on it? Or what if Jeremy wouldn't have seen it and stepped on it himself? I just layed there, so grateful we found it when we did. I have learned especially from my brother's mission that people deal with these creatures and worse daily, but I had to say a little prayer thanking my Heavenly Father for blessing us in that situation. It could have been so much worse.

Anyways, on a lighter note Jeremy takes it to work with him today for a little show-and -tell. Of course the guys there think it's pretty cool and they find a black widow and decide to have an "epic battle" between the two. I think it's pretty sick and I really don't think the scorpion should get any rewards anyway. Last I heard it has become their little pet and they plan to keep it around for awhile.

Smile Please

Jeremy, Kylie and I just got back from a few days in Salt Lake. Jeremy had some more training to do up there and his company was nice enough to invite Kylie and I up for the few days. It was a nice change of scenery and fun to be in a new place. On Saturday we took advantage of being up there and took Kylie to Hogle Zoo. Last year when we took her with Jeremy's family we kept says we can't wait to bring her back next year because she will really love it then. Well, we're not sure love is the right word. She had been talking about the zoo all week. She was really excited to go, but when Saturday finally came she must have just been plain worn out. She fell asleep on the way and was never really as happy as we'd hoped the whole time we are there. She would get excited every once in awhile if she saw something she recognized, but she wasn't loving it like we had hoped she would. Maybe we'll try again next year! Here come a whole bunch of pictures where Kylie REFUSED to smile.

Kylie loves bird so we went to a cool bird show first. I think she thought it was pretty neat, but all we could get out of her was some clapping.

The carousel. Also something she really loves, but we could not get her to smile for one single picture

She recognized the Zebras and liked them

She was excited about the lion drinking fountain

During this picture she was saying, "Camels, come over here camels" and then she would click her tongue hoping that would motivate them to get up and come over. Too bad it didn't work. She tried really hard.

She absolutely hated the giant gorilla...

and the huge elephant and she was really ticked at us when it blew water out its trunk!

Have you ever seen anything so ugly in your life? This old lady was giving a spill on how important these things are and we should never kill them...Are you kidding me?? I wouldn't even get close enough to it to kill it.

The last thing we did was ride the train.

We'll Finally Be Four

We are excited to announce that baby number two is on it's way!! It will be here hopefully somewhere around February 7th, unless Kylie is any indication then it will be a Valentine's baby. Getting babies to our family is a little tough. Thank goodness for modern medicine and a good doctor, the first trimester is over with and everything looks really good. It has a heartbeat of 174 bpm which apparently "sounds like a girl." I am not sure how reliable the heartbeat is in determining gender, but I couldn't wait to tell Jeremy. I knew he would be thrilled. He's really hoping for his boy this time. Of course we would be happy with either. If you ask Kylie if she wants a brother or a sister she says sister. If you ask her if she wants a sister or a brother she says brother. I don't think she really cares, but today I asked her what she wanted to play with and she said "My brother." Maybe she kind of understands what's going on.
Kylie told her grandparents by sending them letters in the mail and telling them how excited she was to be a big sister, and she was going to be a big help. She also told them that they needed to make sure they brought plenty of attention for her when they came to see the baby. She does not want to be left out. We couldn't be more excited and we are just glad to have this little baby be ours.

She'll be good, won't she? I don't know if it's because we have been talking about it or what, but she has all the sudden become very aware of her babies and making sure they get fed and put down for naps. She was doing this before she went to bed the other night.

Kylie's First Haircut

I have decided it was time to give Kylie a haircut. It is something I have been debating over for awhile now. Her hair had gotten pretty long, but it's really thin and if I didn't gel and scrunch it up it just looks really stringy, but on the flip side it was long enough for pig tails and when I actually did gel and scrunch it, it was really cute. In the end I just decided that I would cut it and hopefully that would help it look thicker and then it can grow again. I hope I made the right decsion. Of course we took a million pictures in this 5 minute process...Enjoy!

Before

She was so excited to actually be the one to get her hair cut. Everytime I cut someone's hair she begs for her hair to be cut. I usually just put her on the stool, wrap the cape around her and brush her hair for a minute. It seems to satisfy her.

The first cut

She just got squirted with the squirt bottle

Her pretty curls on the ground

After...Jeremy really liked the flip at the bottom.

Dancing Queen

Kylie and I have become big fans of the movie Mamma Mia. We saw the movie twice while my sisters were here. It held Kylie's attention really well through the whole movie. She loved the music and was caught a couple times trying to sing along to it. We have the soundtrack downloaded and every time I sit down to the computer Kylie makes me turn the music on and she dances to it. Here are a couple videos showing us what she's got.

Ice Cream for Dinner

I have a feeling that my two weeks in Salt Lake totally blew my efforts to acclimatize to the heat. I am not sure if that's the reason or the fact that it's 108* outside, but it's HOT!! For some reason in my mind I have had the thought that summer was pretty much over. I don't know if it's the back to school shopping signs or what it is, but I have been expecting a major cool down and soon! It's just not happening in fact I think it was hotter this week then it's been in a few weeks.
With all this heat poor Kylie and I have been cooped up in the house all week. We (well, probably mostly I) have no desire to go anywhere, but absolutely necessary places such as the store. I started feeling kind of bad about this yesterday, (the hottest day so far, might I add) but I promised Kylie we would take her to the Splash Park by the Tabernacle. Jeremy hadn't been there before and Kylie really likes it. We waited until about 5 and then went. It was a good time to go because there was hardly anybody there and actually it was a tiny bit overcast. Kylie had fun splashing around and climbing on the rocks. When she decided she was finished (or we asked her about 10 times if she was finished and we bribed her with ice cream) we took her to get ice cream for dinner. I think she thought this was probably the best idea we have ever come up with. Especially when we let her pick out the ice cream she wanted and handed her her very own cone.
It started out fairly innocent and she was doing pretty good with it...

Ice cream for dinner probably won't happen very often so we told her to enjoy it and by the end we had ice cream all over the table, all over the floor and all over her face. She loved it though!

Summer Vacation

Kylie and I just returned home from a two week much needed vacation with my family. We spent the first week in Park City, one of my favorite places to go every year. My parents have a time share there and so we go just about every summer. It's a good place to relax, go shopping, get out of the heat and swim.
Monday was the first of about a hundred shopping trips to the outlet mall.

Kylie trying on hats at a store. I had her try something on at Old Navy once and now she feels the need to trying something on every time we go to a clothing store.

Monday night we invited our babysitter Wendi to come up for dinner. It was so fun to see her and her family. We love her so much. She starting babysitting us when Ashley was 3 months old and continued to babysit us even after her mission. (I think I was getting pretty old by then, geez, but I would much rather have her come babysit then me have to do it!!) We were pretty mean to her sometimes, but she was always so nice and had brought fun things for us to do. Of course Kylie made instant friends with her daughter Aynsli and they had a good time playing together.

On Wednesday we took a little trip down to temple square. My sister Lexie hasn't seen a lot of what's down there so we thought that would be fun.

Reflecting pond

Kylie was very excited when she saw Jesus. Can't ya tell? (She actually really was)

We decided to see the Joseph Smith movie. When we walked in the theater and sat down Kylie immediately asked where the popcorn was. Needless to say she didn't last through the whole thing so her and I played outside on the grass for awhile.

Mimicking Angel Moroni

On Thursday our Hansen Family Reunion started. It was fun to see all my cousins and be with the family. Our favorite thing was the Alpine Coaster

Kylie had to settle for the animals and airplane rides because she just wasn't quite old enough to ride the Coaster

Kylie was introduced to her favorite combination of dipping, licking and sugar combined into one.

Of course we got in plenty of swim time

Park City was a blast and we hope to go back next year!

On to week number two... We drove down to Sandy on Sunday and went to church in our old ward. We went to dinner that night at my mom's friends house. To Kylie's dismay they had three little dogs she was not sure about. She warmed up to them a little bit and soon was introducing herself to them. She said to one of the dogs "Hi Owie (Ollie), I is Kydie" (She says her name with a d) It was pretty funny.

We spent the next couple of days in Draper at my cousin Jamie's house and doing stuff around town.

My sisters spent a day doing baptisms for the dead in the Jordan River and Salt Lake Temples.

On Wednesday I brought my sisters down to St. George and we hung out here for a few days. We tried to celebrate the 24th of July by going to a Stake Party outside, but it was just too dang hot. So we were content staying inside playing cards. On Friday we went up to Cedar and took my grandma to Mama Mia. It was fun to be with her and I think she really enjoyed spending the time with us. Saturday morning my mom and dad arrived and picked the girls up and they headed home. I was sad to see them leave. Kylie misses them and always asks where her aunts went. I love spending time with family and it was fun to get away for awhile and not have too much to worry about.

By the way, Kylie is very pleased with the new tinted windows we got on our car. Last night driving up to Cedar for Jeremy's class reunion she asked "Where did the sun go?"

Happy 2nd Birthday Kylie!!

Happy Birthday Kylie. I can't believe you are 2 years old. It's crazy to think you have been in our lives for that long, but I also can't remember what is was like not to have you with us. You're make us laugh everyday with the funny things you say and your cute facial expressions We're still not quite sure where you have learned most of what you know, but you continue to amaze us with how smart you are and how well you pick up on things going on around you. We love you so much and can't wait to see what you become in the next two years and all the years after that.

Picture Perfect

I took Kylie to get her 2 year old pictures taken and she loved every second of it! She was so excited. We had to wait for a few mintues and so she stood on a chair and watch the kids in front of her get theirs taken and every time they would get down to change the background or something she would jump off her chair and say "My turn." She smiled really well for them and did exactly what she was asked. These pictures are only the proofs. I wish I could post the pictures I came home with because they were cropped and edited and look really good. You can't ask for much with studio pictures, but I think she is dang cute.

Terrible Twos Are Well On Their Way

I must say I have been pretty lucky to have a fairly calm little girl for the past year 11 months and 3 weeks, but she is one week from being two and she is starting out the terrible twos with a bang. Here are a couple clues we are in for a crazy year.

We left her alone for a little while thinking she is playing in the kitchen only to find a few minutes later that not only has she pulled the whole roll of toilet paper off the roll, but she has shredded it to a million pieces a long the way. (By the way, she insisted on putting her pants back on all by herself after going to the bathroom and they are on backwards. I don't know if you can tell , but the belt is in the back.)

Clue number two. I was coloring my sister-in-law Amy's hair today and she had just gotten done saying "She is so nice to just play." When we walk over to the other room and find this; about 8 different card games scattered across the floor. So much for being "nice." I waited until Jeremy got home so he could see what HIS daughter did. We cleaned it up and then told her in a very nice voice "Kylie never ever ever get all the cards out again" She just put her finger up to her mouth and shushed us. Anytime she doesn't like what we are saying or Jeremy is sing obnoxiously in the car she shushes us.

Clue Number Three: I currently have spaghetti spilled all over my pantry floor. Kylie has learned that f she pulls a stool over to the door, opens it, climbs up and she can reach quite a few shelves from there.

Clue Number Four: She wrote on our light colored chair with a blue pen. We asked her about it and she admitted to doing it then she promptly spit on her finger and wiped at the mark. (At least she's honest)

She has a tendance to make up for some of this stuff she does by saying funny things. For example: we were in the car (I know it seems like we are always in the car, but really we are not. Just funny things happen in the car) and we drove through a playing lot that looked like one that would be at a park and Kylie says "I want to go to the park.'' I said "We can't, there isn't a park here." and she says "Oh shoot." We then drove past a lot that was for sale and we saw the price on the sign that said it was $249,000 and Kylie says "My gosh." I am not sure those are the best things for little girls to say, but I guess they have to be better then the alternative. I think we'll keep her after all.
